The Moyer Foundation History

With the support of the community, The Moyer Foundation has been making history since 2000, helping more causes and more children in distress each year.

2000		KAREN AND JAMIE MOYER ESTABLISH THE MOYER FOUNDATION! More... Karen and Jamie Moyer establish The Moyer Foundation with the mission of helping children in severe distress. TMF hosts its first fundraising event in Seattle with the Jamie Moyer Celebrity Bowling Tournament, raising funds for the Foundation’s first grant – raising funds and awareness for organ donation. Karen and Jamie Moyer approach Providence Hospice and Home Care in Snohomish, WA with the idea of CAMP ERIN -- a weekend grief camp for kids, designed to help children and teenagers who have experienced the death of a loved one.
2001		THE MOYER FOUNDATION ENGAGES THE LOCAL COMMUNITY TO SUPPORT CHILDREN VICTIMS OF 9/11 More... TMF partners with Kumon North America raise funds to establish four bereavement camps for children who lost a loved one during 9/11. TMF creates the first "What Cancer Cannot Do" Calendar to benefit Hutch School.
2002		CAMP ERIN IS BORN! More... TMF teams up with Providence Hospice of Snohomish County to establish the first Camp Erin in Everett, WA! TMF forms a partnership with Children's Hospital and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance to help fund the innovative Child Life Program.
2003		THE MOYER FOUNDATION TEAMS UP WITH FRED HUTCHINSON CANCER RESEARCH CENTER TO ESTABLISH THE GREGORY FUND More... TMF creates The Gregory Fund, a new initiative to raise awareness and funds for early cancer-detection research. The Fund is inspired by Gregory Chaya, then a 2-year-old cancer survivor Jamie met in 1993. TMF also creates Catch a Cure for Cancer, an annual event to raise awareness and funds for The Gregory Fund. Jamie Moyer is named the winner of the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award presented each year to the Major League Baseball player who combines outstanding baseball skills with devoted work in the community. 2004		JAMIE MOYER RECEIVES THE 2004 HUTCH AWARD More... Jamie Moyer receives the 2004 Hutch Award, honoring a baseball player displaying honor, courage and dedication on the field and in life, presented by The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The Moyer Foundation expands its commitment to Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center with the establishment of The Moyer Foundation Endowment for Excellence in Pediatric Palliative Care with continued support of the Child Life Program at Children's. Camp Erin-Seattle opens.
2005		THE MOYER FOUNDATION RALLIES COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN VICTIMS OF THE TSUNAMI IN SOUTHEAST ASIA More... In response to the devastating tsunami in Southeast Asia, TMF, spearheaded by Co-Founder, Karen Moyer, joins forces with local schools, entrepreneurs and other companies to support Asiana Education Development (AED), a non-profit organization that provides hands on, direct assistance to schools and orphanages throughout Sri Lanka. Through this effort, The Moyer Foundation organizes a massive donation drive to collect food, clothing and supplies and creates the "Care for Each Other" Bracelet, sold at local retail stores with proceeds benefiting AED. The Moyer Foundation opens 2 new Camp Erin programs in Portland, OR and Tacoma
2006		THE MOYER FOUNDATION HOSTS ITS FIRST EVER DREAM CATCHERS EVENT TO BENEFIT CAMP ERIN - RAISING OVER $1.2 MILLION FOR CAMP ERIN! More... Karen Moyer receives Helen H. Jackson- Woman of Valor Award Presented by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Senator Maria Cantwell. TMF hosts its first ever Dream Catchers event raising a record $1.2 million to expand Camp Erin in Washington State and throughout the Northwest. TMF creates the ZOOM program (Zoo Opportunities Open to More) in partnership with the Woodland Park Zoo, providing more than 3,000 free passes to underprivileged children annually. The Moyer Foundation establishes Camp Erin –Philadelphia, Phoenix, AZ, and Boise, ID
2007		LAUNCH OF THE CAMP ERIN CAMPAIGN FOR KIDS – THE BEGINNING OF EXPANSION OF CAMP ERIN NATIONWIDE More... Launch of the Camp Erin Campaign for Kids – a multi-year fundraising campaign to establish more than 50 new camps nationwide, creating a national network of advocates - from professional sports, agency partners and experts in the field of childhood bereavement. The Moyer Foundation launches Camp Mariposa, in partnership with Youth Eastside Services (Y.E.S), a camp for children who have been affected drug and/or alcohol addiction of a family member. This appears to be the first camp of its kind in the country. The Moyer Foundation hosts its first fundraising event in Philadelphia- the Celebrity Waiters Dinner and Auction, raising nearly $250,000 for Camp Erin, Philadelphia and the Campaign for Kids The Moyer Foundation partners with Seattle’s renowned Swedish Hospital to help establish the region’s first Pediatric and Perinatal Simulation Center. The Moyer Foundation opens Camp Erin in 11 new cities!
2008		THE MOYER FOUNDATION HONORS EDGAR MARTINEZ WITH THE FIRST HUMANITARIAN AWARD More... TMF is honored by the National Association of Fundraising Professionals with “2008 Outstanding Philanthropic Organization” Award The Moyer Foundation establishes The Moyer Foundation Humanitarian Award and honors the first recipient, Edgar Martinez The Moyer Foundation opens Camp Erin in 11 new cities!
2009		CAMP ERIN OPEN IN 28 CITIES! More... TMF honors Cal Ripken Jr. with the 2nd Annual Moyer Foundation Humanitarian Award
